'In Her Own Words' - Winning Songs

Listen to the winning song and the runners-up below

Rosie Oddie has won Angelic Music's 'In Her Own Words' singer-songwriter competition with 'Genni's Song'.

With Abbie Lathe in second place with the song 'Broken' and we created an extra third place for US artist Maggi Jane (from Maggi, Peirce and EJ) for the song 'Flame'.

The judges and I had a fabulous day listening though the finalists songs and I was really happy of the quality of songs they had to choose from. Abbie Lathe's song Broken stood out immediately, it's simply beautiful and the vocal arrangement is stunning and so original. The judges decided at the last minute to add an extra third place for 'Flame' because it's just so infectious and lovely and they just couldn't let it go.

However it was Rosie Oddie that stole the show, despite attracting entries from all over the world, it was 21 year old Rosie from Camden with ‘Genni’s Song’ (which was inspired by her friend whilst travelling last year) who won the judges’ vote and they were unanimous in their decision.

We wanted find someone with originality and character and we have certainly found this with Rosie. There wasn’t another song entered like hers. Those who have heard Rosie’s music have likened her to a female Ian Dury and her track has been described as a “rhaps-ody”.

Rosie, who has been writing since the age of 13 with her group the ‘Odd Squad’, will now be following in the footsteps of her father Bill Oddie, one of TV’s best known personalities.

Rosie said, “I only entered the competition at the last minute after my dad read about it in a Maverick magazine article and I’m really excited about winning.”

She had been offered a number of music deals since she started writing but said, “I feel I have only just got to the right age to do this for real.”

We are also just as excited to be working with Rosie and also with Abbie.

Two totally different but wonderfully talented artists - a fantastic result.
